Description | Mandatory Window Inspection Scheme According to the Mandatory Building Inspection Scheme, owners of private buildings (excluding domestic buildings not exceeding 3 storeys) that are 30 years old or above are required to appoint a registered inspector to conduct inspections upon receipt of a statutory notice from the Buildings Department. Conduct prescribed inspections on the common parts of the building, external walls and projections or signboards, and supervise the prescribed repair works deemed necessary after inspection. If prescribed repairs are required, the owner concerned must appoint a registered contractor to carry out the necessary prescribed repairs under the supervision of a registered inspector. Registered inspectors and registered contractors Under the Mandatory Building Inspection Scheme, registered inspectors appointed to conduct prescribed inspections of buildings or to supervise prescribed repair works of buildings must be persons whose names are then listed on the register of inspectors maintained by the Building Authority. Under the Mandatory Building Inspection Scheme, the registered contractor appointed to carry out the necessary rectification and repair works must be a registered general building contractor listed in the relevant list maintained by the Building Authority or be qualified to carry out the rectification and repair works registered minor works contractor. Registered minor works contractors are eligible to carry out minor works of the class, type and project for which they are registered. |
